Family houses – building an intergenerational space in post-apartheid Namibia

This qualitative study presents how intergenerational relationships have spatially shaped the former apartheid township Kuisebmond in Walvis Bay, Namibia. The housing, which was designed for nuclear families, now accommodates multiple generations. People different age cohorts are distributed differently space. late later life lived housing units, whilst people early backyard shacks or other rentals. Certain patterns of cohabitation with younger relatives were discernible. It is highly likely that extended family will be an important facet Namibian urban foreseeable future, since traditional been interpreted urbanised form. great importance can accommodate various versions family, necessary existence and obligations resource pooling.
